Spritz Cookies

spritz cookies

a Christmas classic

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 3/4 cup white granulated sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 teaspoon almond extract

  • 2 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • sprinkles, optional

Extra tools: cookie press

Preparation:

  1. Preheat oven to 350º F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar with a hand or standing mixer, scraping the sides of the bowl as necessary (about 2 minutes).

  3. Add in the egg, vanilla, and almond extracts. Beat until combined.

  4. Add in the flour and salt and mix on low until the dough comes together. Increase the speed until all of the dough comes together.

  5. Transfer the mixture into the cookie press with a plate and form the cookie shapes (if you don’t have a cookie press you can also make very small dough rounds (flatten a little before baking).

  6. Top the cookies with sprinkles if using and bake for 7-8 minutes, they should be very light in color.
